Justin Giunta
The stylistic language that Justin pioneered has earned him recognition from the fashion industry. Justin was awarded the Swarovski Award For Emerging Talent at the 2009 CFDA Awards, following three consecutive nominations. Subversive Jewelry plays with the baroque philosophy that more is more. Each piece is handcrafted, mixed with the idea of modern deconstruction in fashion. “I design each piece of jewelry with a concept behind it so it is both a beautiful and engaging.” Sourcing vintage materials from secondary markets, Giunta selects his materials for their intrinsic qualities to create a richly toned palette for his creations.
Justin has had the unique opportunity to translate his aesthetic through several design collaborations. Working with fashion designers like: Patrick Robinson, Alexander Wang, Donna Karan and J.Mendel, Justin’s designs have appeared on many fashion runways and amassed a celebrity and cult following for his casual jewelry that makes any wearer a superstar. Subversive Jewelry has also participated in cobranded collections for: Barbie, Dr. Martin’s, Swarovski, and Target. Justin currently consults to several private label brands, while maintaining the design of Subversive Jewelry. Giunta recently launched a lighting collection with the company Avrett.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Giunta has studied at several art institutions including Pratt Institute and the Gerrit Reitveld Academie in Amsterdam. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and a fellowship from Yale University. Justin lives and works in New York City.
